How Our Process Works

  1. Service inquiry — tell us your country of residence and account needs. A consultation is optional for substantive legal questions.
  2. Document collection and preparation. We confirm the selected bank’s checklist and the intended use of the account.
  3. CPF preparation — if you do not have a CPF, we can handle the application under a separate engagement and fee before the bank needs it.
  4. Account application — we coordinate directly with the bank. Its compliance team decides whether to approve the application.
  5. Activation support — available online banking, payment and card features depend on the bank and account.
  6. Funds-transfer guidance for your first transfer, after confirming the permitted payment route and any source-of-funds documents.

Opening an account to receive inheritance proceeds

A new Brazilian account is not required in every probate. Before opening one, confirm who is legally entitled to receive the funds and which payment route the institution releasing them will accept. An heir’s personal account, the deceased’s account and an estate account serve different purposes.

Opening an account does not authorize a withdrawal from the deceased’s account or a distribution of estate funds. The bank may request the applicable court order, notarial deed or other release document, together with evidence of the source and purpose of the payment.

Start with whether an heir needs a separate Brazilian account. For the later exchange and outbound payment, see transferring inherited funds abroad. Probate, tax advice and remittance work are separate scopes to confirm in the engagement.

Frequently Asked Questions About Opening a Brazilian Bank Account

1. How does a quote work?

Tell us your country of residence and your goal for the account. We confirm a flat fee before any work begins.

2. What is the typical timeline?

Once your documents and CPF are in order, the bank can assess the application. There is no guaranteed opening date. We confirm the selected bank’s current estimate; additional compliance checks, missing documents or eligibility issues may extend it.

3. Which countries do you serve?

We regularly assist clients from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and other countries, subject to the selected bank’s country, residency and client-eligibility policies.

4. Do I have to sign in person?

Remote signing and opening are available for eligible applications. We confirm the selected bank’s identity-verification and document requirements for your circumstances.

5. What do you need from me to start?

For the bank application, commonly requested documents include a valid passport, your CPF (or authorization for us to obtain one), a tax ID from your country of residence, proof of address abroad, and proof of income.

The bank may request additional source-of-funds and tax-status information. Note that our CPF service is separate from the bank account opening and will require an additional fee.

6. Does hiring the firm guarantee approval?

No. The bank makes the approval decision. A POA or CPF does not waive its identification and compliance requirements. The Central Bank’s nonresident-account guidance confirms that an institution is not obliged to open or maintain an account.

Disclose your actual residency and tax status, and update the bank when they change. The account label does not determine tax residency. Confirm features, limits and charges for the specific product before transferring funds.
